Fast charging depends on the phone, the charger and the cable all agreeing on how much power to use. If any one of them cannot support it, the phone quietly falls back to slow charging.
Check the charger and cable
- Use a charger rated for your phone's fast charging standard
- Try a different USB-C cable; worn cables often limit power
- Plug the charger straight into a wall socket rather than an extension or laptop
- Look for bent or discoloured contacts on the cable end
Check the settings
Galaxy phones have fast charging options in the battery settings. Make sure they are switched on. Battery protection features that limit charging to a lower percentage can also make charging look slower than expected.
Heat slows charging
Phones reduce charging speed when the battery is warm. Charging in a hot car, under a pillow or while gaming can drop the speed dramatically.
When it is the phone
If a known-good charger and cable still will not fast charge, or the cable feels loose in the port, the charging port may be dirty or worn. A clean or port replacement usually restores normal charging. A worn battery can also refuse fast charging, which a diagnostic will show.
